Enviro-update
Nov. 5th, 2007 02:10 pmWell, I'm feeling much better, although it seemed I was having a relapse yesterday. So back to NY for me!
For those of you who haven't been paying attention, organic food has again been found to be healthier than pesticide-covered food. This time, the details of the study include the fact that organic food contains "more antioxidants and less fatty acids."
In bad news, 36 states are predicted to suffer from drastic water shortages in the next 5 years "because of a combination of rising temperatures, drought, population growth, urban sprawl, waste and excess." This is scarier to me than global climate change itself.
Here are photos of some species that may be extinct soon. Look now and wonder.
For your kids, the five foods it's most important to buy organic: milk, potatoes, peanut butter, ketchup, and apples. Ketchup?
In fuel matters, some have warned that the greater use of biofuels will worsen the plight of the world's poor. Family farmers are being forced off their lands, and a lot of food is going to First-World cars rather than Third-World mouths. Here is the actual report in PDF form.
Ooh! More good news: IBM has developed a simple way to recycle silicon wafers from solar panels. Woot!
Finally, and here I will stop, pediatricians warn that children will suffer most, health-wise, because of global climate change.
Sobering.
